A Portmanteau word (plural portmanteaux) is a word formed by joining two other words. The following are the examples of some portmanteaux:

 

  1. Smog = Smoke + Fog
  2. Infotainment = Information + entertainment
  3. Brunch = breakfast + lunch
  4. Lupper = lunch + supper
  5. Galumph = gallop + triumph
  6. Tigon = tiger + lion
  7. Motel = motor + hotel
  8. Fruitamin = fruit + vitamin
  9. Freshetarian = fresh + vegetarian/non-vegetarian
  10. Bancassurance = bank + insurance/assurance
  11. Telaesthesia = telepathy + anaesthesia
  12. Gelignite = gelatine + ignite
  13. Gasohol = gasoline + alcohol
  14. Neutraceuticals = nutrition + pharmaceuticals
  15. Satisficing = satisfying + sufficing
  16. Edutainment = Education + entertainment
  17. Infomercial = Information + commercial
  18. Hinglish = Hindi + English
  19.  Kanglish = Kannada + English
  20. Tinglish = Telugu + English
  21. Narcolepsy = Narcotics + epilepsy

  23. Chinglish = Chinese + English
  24. Inglish = India + English
  25. Smaze = Smoke + haze
  26. Snizzle (Snow changing to drizzle) = Snow + drizzle
  27. Clumid = Cloudy + humid
  28. Flustrated = Flustered + frustrated
  29. Intanity = Intellect + insanity
  30. Tondreds = Ton + Hundreds
  31. Surrendipity = Surreptitious + serendipity
  32. Frings = French Fries + Onion Rings
  33. Governator = Governor + Terminator
  34. Spuroneous (a mistake due to reliance on false information) = Spur + Erroneous
  35. Tragesty = Tragedy + Honesty
  36. Nibling = Nephews/nieces + sibling
  37. Telecrastination = Telephone + procrastination
  38. Infomediary = Information + intermediary
  39. Franglish = French + English
  40. Spanglish = Spanish + English
  41. Russlish = Russian + English
  42. Ponglish = Polish + English
  43. Japlish = Japanese + English
  44. Eggetarian = Egg + vegetarian
  45. Slurve (specialty pitch in baseball) = Slider + curve
